Congresswoman Val Demings hosts open house at Orlando district office

Orlando, FL- Congresswoman and former Orlando Police Chief Val Demings hosted an open house at her Congressional District office in Metrowest on Saturday to meet with constituents and hear what their concerns were regarding issues on the federal level.
Attendees enjoyed a barbecue lunch and a personal tour of the office from Demings herself. The Congresswoman says that the future of health care continues to be the number one issue she’s hearing the most concerns about from her constituents.
“We’ve gone through the threat of having the affordable care act repealed for seven years since it was passed.” said Demings “The attempt by Republicans to replace it with the American Care Act really scared a lot of people. 60,000 people here in the district receive care under the current plan, that’s the main thing we’ve heard today ‘Please save our health'”
Demings has also been monitoring the situation in Syria where the U.S launched a military strike following a chemical weapons attack that killed dozens, including many children earlier in the week. The action has garnered approval from both sides of the aisle but many Democrats would like to see the White House go through Congress before taking any further military action.
“It sent a strong message to Assad but the biggest question is ‘What’s next?’ and we really don’t want any additional actions without congressional approval.” added the Congresswoman.
Other elected officials at the open house included Orange County Sheriff Jerry Demings, State Senator Victor Torres, and Orlando City Commissioner Robert Stuart.
“It’s totally important to make sure you have an office that is accessible to the constituents and that we’re responsible to their needs.” said Demings in closing.
