Congresswoman Demings Votes Against Partial Government Funding Bill
WASHINGTON, D.C.—Congresswoman Val Demings, Florida’s 10th Congressional district, voted against a partial government funding bill (H.R. 3219) Thursday and released the following statement:
“Our nation’s security is my top priority, and should be Congress’s number one priority. Unfortunately, this bill would not make our nation more secure, but would have triggered a 13 percent across-the-board cut to our military and directed $1.6 billion in taxpayer funds to building a border wall without any evidence that it would make our nation safe.
“Furthermore, the bill did not include any funding for many of the nation’s key security priorities, such as the Department of Homeland Security, the state department, or the FBI.
“Congress should be focused on working together to make the tough decisions about how to fund our entire government – not just part of it.
“This bill does not do that, and does not go far enough to protect our nation.
