Congresswoman Val Demings announces Video Series, “Your ACA Stories from Congressional District 10"
Orlando, FL- Congresswoman Val Demings, Florida’s 10th Congressional District, announces a video series highlighting Constituent healthcare stories, named “Your ACA Stories from Congressional District 10.”
Congresswoman Demings invited constituents to share their experiences with the Affordable Care Act ahead of the vote in the Senate to “Repeal and Replace” it.
“It was so important for me to hear the stories from people in Central Florida who have been affected by the ACA, whether their experience has been positive or negative,” said Congresswoman Val Demings.
“We know the ACA is not perfect, but let’s work together to make it better, and I’m hoping by sharing some of these stories I can show why that is so important.”
The video series starts with the story of Kirk, a husband and father to two, who is a small business owner. At first under the ACA he saw his premiums increase. He was later diagnosed with Stage 4 Bladder cancer while covered under the ACA.
“Before the ACA, had I gotten Cancer, I would’ve been dropped by my insurance,” said Kirk, “but because of laws put into place by the ACA and having that insurance coverage, I was able to survive.”
“I look to the future, if these protections for people with pre-existing conditions are taken away, it scares me, literally to death.”
The stories will be shared on Congresswoman Demings social media pages ahead of the Senate Health Care vote.
“I’m committed to working with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to make the Affordable Care Act better for all Americans.
“In a country which we say is the greatest in the nation, healthcare should be a right, not a privilege.”
