Today marks two years since the second-worst mass shooting in U.S. history
Today, Rep. Val Demings (FL-10) made the following statement on the Pulse Nightclub shooting, which took place in the 10th District two years ago today. The club, an LGBTQ sanctuary, was hosting its “Latin Night” when 49 people were killed and 53 wounded. At the time, it was the worst terrorist attack in the U.S.
Measure Would Block Arming Teachers with Anti-Terror Funding
Yesterday, the House Committee on Homeland Security passed a measure introduced by Rep. Val Demings (FL-10), which would prohibit the purchase of firearms for teachers with anti-terror funding. Specifically, it would block the use of State Homeland Security Grant Program and Urban Area Security Initiative Program grants to purchase firearms, ammunition, and firearm accessories for any purpose.
This week, Rep. Demings introduced the bipartisan ‘Defend Against Russian Disinformation Act.’ Today, the House of Representatives voted to include two provisions from that bill as bipartisan amendments to the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA).
