Rep. Demings Announces New Opportunity Zones
Today, Governor Scott announced Opportunity Zone designations for the state of Florida. The Opportunity Zone Program is designed to drive long-term capital investments to rural and urban communities that have fallen behind in economic growth compared to other parts of their region.
Last month, Rep. Demings (FL-10) sent a letter to Governor Scott advocating for Opportunity Zone designation for 26 census tracts within the 10th Congressional District. Today, Governor Scott announced the designation of 20 tracts within the 10th District.
Said Rep. Demings, “I’m glad to announce that, pending final approval, 20 census tracts within the 10th District have been designated as Opportunity Zones. The communities I represent are uniquely positioned to take advantage of this bipartisan, pro-growth program. I am hopeful that this designation will lead to diverse economic growth in a variety of sectors, including the emerging field of Blue Collar STEM.”
“In Congress, I have worked to support local small business, expand the availability of affordable housing, and encourage STEM education to grow the next generation of jobs. My constituents are talented and forward-thinking and ready to turn new investments into exciting and sustainable entrepreneurship. Now that we have been given the opportunity, I know that our community will excel.”
