Rep. Demings Cosponsors Resolution to Terminate State of Emergency

ORLANDO, FL – Today, Rep. Demings and other Members of Congress will introduce a resolution to immediately terminate President Trump’s disgraceful state of emergency. The law provides Congress the responsibility to terminate an emergency declaration.
Said Rep. Demings, “President Trump’s disgraceful state of emergency is an attempt to subvert the Constitution of the United States, which I swore an oath to defend. Failing to keep a campaign promise is not a state of emergency. Losing a political debate is not a state of emergency.
“By misusing his power to declare national emergencies, the president weakens and degrades our democracy and threatens the stability and security of our nation. It is up to Congress to fulfill our responsibility to the Constitution and restore the system of checks and balances that protect the rights and freedoms of the American people. It is my hope that my GOP colleagues will join us to prevent any further damage to our republic.”
