Rep. Demings Demands Accountability

ORLANDO, FL – Rep. Demings will vote for legislation to hold accountable the instigators of last week’s deadly attack on the U.S. Capitol.
Said Rep. Demings, “I love our country, and our democracy is the foundation that sustains everything from our personal safety to our opportunities for a better life. Protecting that democracy—and the opportunities and security that it provides—is a sacred obligation.
“Last week, attackers incited by President Trump and his enablers in Congress wounded dozens of Capitol Police officers and killed one while trying to overturn our democracy and to kill or capture the Vice President and other elected representatives. They failed. But the fact that the president and others incited this mob to a violent attempt to overturn our democracy cannot be forgotten nor forgiven.
“Healing requires justice. Unity requires accountability. Congress will rightly act this week in defense of our republic. Vice President Pence should invoke the 25th Amendment and remove President Trump from office. If not, the U.S. House of Representatives is preparing to impeach the president.”
Background
Rep. Demings has cosponsored and will vote for:
- U.S. Rep. Jamie Raskin’s resolution calling on Vice President Mike Pence to invoke the 25th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution and remove President Trump from office.
- The impeachment of President Trump on charges of incitement of insurrection.
- U.S. Rep. Cori Bush’s resolution to require an investigation of Members of Congress who voted to overturn the election and helped incite Wednesday’s attack.
